    ~1 hrs

  2. 2

Prepare conceptual plans and contractor estimates

Develop a narrative or drawn description of proposed improvements and obtain detailed contractor estimates. If applying as a tenant, secure written property-owner consent.

    ~4 hrs

  3. 3

    Complete the online intake form

Submit the program application with required attachments: photos of current façade, W-9, proof of insurance, proof of ownership or tenant consent, and proof of funding for the total project cost.

    ~2 hrs

  4. 4

Enter into grant agreement before work begins

If selected, execute an agreement with the Downtown Austin Alliance. No work may start until the agreement is signed.

    ~30 min

  5. 5

    Complete improvements and request reimbursement

Secure permits, complete the work, and submit proof of payment (canceled checks, lien releases) and completion verification for reimbursement.

    ~2 hrs

Insider tip

Tier 1 'no-permit' projects are the fastest path to funding and are prioritized for shovel-ready work; submit clear before/after photos and a concise visual-impact narrative to stand out in the rolling review.
